SK Gaming is a German eSports organization that has fielded teams in different major eSports games today. Their name shook the world after their first major event win back in Cologne 2016 as they came out the victors of the CS:GO event.
The team went home with a whopping $500,000! Followed by Team Liquid with $150,000 and Virtus.Pro with Fnatic coming in at 3rd place for $70,000!
They are not connected with the South Korean gaming team “SK Telecom T1”.
Real fans of this awesome organization should know the roots of their name. With that being said, what does SK Gaming mean? SK is the abbreviation of Schroet Kommando and was founded way back in 1997 as a German Quake Clan by four brothers and their friends. One of their team kept of shouting “Schrot!” meaning “Shrapnel” every time they encounter a double barrel shotgun in-game.
Since from the start, their passion for eSports was focused on Counterstrike events, making them one of the formidable teams in the genre!
