The Halo series centers on an epic interstellar war between humans and funny talking aliens. The aliens known as the Covenant is led by their prophets and worships an ancient civilization that was wiped out. The game focuses on the awesome adventures of Master Chief, along with his companions and of course who wouldn’t recognize Cortana his AI companion. The world “Halo” is referring to the super weapons that the old alien civilization left.

Of course, everyone knows about Halo and the series is considered the best in the world. Every now and then a military science fiction FPS game comes out and tries to do something better than what Halo has been doing for more than a decade now. They have also been selling out millions of copies worldwide with their campaign management being handled by Microsoft, nothing seems to be holding them back.

These are the titles that span 16yrs across all 13 titles. With this so much Halo games it would be impossible to explain each feature or improvement from the first title that was released in 2001. Instead, we will focus on talking about Halo 5: Guardians as this is the latest Halo game that is being played in eSports events today.

Halo 5: Guardians

The events happening in Halo 5: Guardians involves two SPARTAN teams. One team being lead by none other than our favorite sci-fi superhero “Master Chief” and the other team is lead by a new-blood Jameson Locke which at first thought that the Chief was up to something illegal. The story revolves around having to look for Cortana and Chief going AWOL and saving negotiating with Cortana to go back to UNSC. The Spartan Abilities is a new feature in the game replacing the old Armor Abilities.

Halo eSports History

The Halo series has always been featured in Major League Gaming since the first released game. The series has been also played internationally like the ECL or European Console League event back in 2010 which was held in Liverpool. In the Oceanic region the “Australian Cyber League” hosted a Pro-Circuit having to host games in major cities like Australia and Brisbane back in 2009.

Due to the number of changes in between titles stretched all throughout the years it has gone into a steep decline which started in 2010. The release of Halo: Reach was one of the reasons why eSports wasn’t that much of a fan of this epic game due to drastic changes from the original title.

The decline continued until late 2013-14 where Halo 4 was released and had a bigger change in the gameplay itself. The result was devastating to the eSports scene of the game and was only able to manage one major game event, the Halo 4 World Championships which was hosted by the developer 334 Industries as an attempt to save their game title from falling into the abyss of eSports gaming.

Due to the failure in getting their new titles in the eSports scene, they created the 60fps re-mastered old titles called “Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Though this was an honest to goodness attempt to revive the game, it suffered bugs that further led to the eSports scene completely dying for the Halo team!

Since the game was clearly declining, it was dropped off by the Major League Gaming (MLG) and was replaced by Call of Duty as their new staple event in the league. Currently the newest title they are pushing in the eSports scene is the Halo 5 with it being built entirely for competitive gaming. They added a wide range of competitive modes and of course the most awaited spectator mode. With the spectator mode, people that want to watch their favorite players are now able to do so in live games.

Back at their game again, 343 Industries are still hosing Halo World Championships back into popularity with 4v4 competitions that are held in MLG, ESL and Gfinity. Prize pool is up to $2,000.000 and is currently looking really good. With the game slowly getting back its name in the eSports world, it is the perfect time to bet Bitcoins!

Current Leading Teams

The previous major event in Halo was the Halo World Championship 2017 that was held in ESL Studios in Burbank, California from March 24 – 26, 2017. The even had a 4v4 format and the winning team was OpTic Gaming. Prize pool was $1,000,000! You can get more updates from the current running events on this link.

There are a number of live stream videos that you can look for in Twitch with players from professional gaming teams.
